The Dead Weather – Coachella

The Dead Weather is one of Jack Whites many side/main projects. He knows music. He knows rock. The Dead Weather proves that.

To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much, but when they started playing, I was blown away. They rocked and showed me that rock music can still live, even in this world full of auto-tune and 12 year old mega stars.

Shooting Notes:

I got to the pit a bit late because I was shooting Les Claypool before. Because of that, there was already about 100 photographers in the pit, so I got a pretty bad spot to the side of the stage. I did as much as I could, and I tried some new different techniques in here. I used the 70-200 f/2.8 lens because it was pretty far away, and very very dark. None the less, amazing performance.

Alex Miller – El Rey

A good friend of mine rocked it at the El Rey last Friday. He did a fantastic job and has a great blend of country with a great voice. He also has some amazing fans that all know his songs.

Shooting was a bit rough because it was just florescent red lights…Ew.

Mew – Webster Hall

I had heard of Webster Hall a while back and always have wanted to shoot their since I started doing concert photography. While in New York, I looked up who was playing and I was able to catch Mew. They were pretty sweet and had an interesting sound.

Shooting wise, it was probably the most difficult show I have ever taken photos at. It was basically a strobe light for the first 3 songs, and there was no room to move at all in the pit. So, needless to say, it was difficult.

Robin Thicke – Club Nokia

Well, right of the bat, if you haven’t heard Robin Thicke, you need to go buy any of his albums. He is just a phenomenal singer and amazing performer.

Robin owned it at Club Nokia which continues to prove how amazing that venue is. His genre is one of my favorites because it just makes you move, and feel the music. As always, he was super tight and his band was just fantastic. The Game also showed up, which was a pretty sweet addition to the evening.

Mute Math – Club Nokia

Wow. Well I don’t really know even where to start with this one. I have listened to Mute Math for quite some time now and have never seen them in concert. I had heard they were good, but I was not ready for what I was about to experience.

They are all such amazing musicians and they just love music. I could just tell how much they loved just jamming. It didnt matter if there was a crowd or anything, they would have still just gone crazy.

In the encore, the drummer threw his basedrum out into the crowd and stood on it and backdove into the crowd. It was probably one of the sweetest things I have ever seen.

Because of the awesomeness that this show had, I really think that these are my best pictures to date. I just love them.

Switchfoot – HOB Anaheim

I have been a long time fan of Switchfoot back when Meant To Live dominated the radio. But, they switched it up a bit at this concert. They have a new album out called Hello Hurricane (if you don’t have it go buy it) and they “opened” for themselves by playing the new record start to finish. It was pretty sweet.

Jon Foreman is an amazing performer and just a down to earth dude. As a band they were super tight and very clean. They rocked the House Of Blues to a completely sold out crowd.

Hellogoodbye – Club Nokia

Well, Club Nokia has quickly become one of my favorite venues to shoot. Amazing lighting and amazing sound. Just wonderful.

Hellogoodbye was awesome. I had never seen them live and always thought of them more of an electronic band but, they were awesome. Great performers and really fun.

As Tall As Lions – Club Nokia

As Tall As Lions were awesome. They did a great job and everyone loved them. They seemed very tight and well rehearsed.

The bass player was one of the most animated bassists I have ever seen in my life, and as you will tell by the photos, he dominates a lot of them.

I had a great time and Club Nokia continues to amaze me on its greatness as a venue.

Third Eye Blind – Palladium

Well, this was my first time at the Palladium and my first time seeing Third Eye Blind, two things that are great. I thought the Palladium was about the size of HOB, but it was huge. The security personnel were really nice (shockingly) and the venue was just a really cool atmosphere. It has a huge standing floor and some pretty sweet balconies.

I hadn’t listened to Third Eye Blind for a while until I saw that they were playing in town. I started listening to them again and remembered the first song I learned on guitar was Semi-Charmed Life, so it was a trip back for me for sure. The lead singer, Stephan Jenkins was awesome. He was a great performer and an awesome subject for the photos. It was a fantastic night with great music.

P.S. – Sorry I havn’t posted in a while…Long story short, I got an underwater housing for my camera, went in the pool, and the housing broke and flooded. My brand new D700 was ruined…suck. After a long process I was finally able to get Nikon to just replace it and they just sent me a brand new one. I love you Nikon and B&H. I hate you underwater housing. <3
