Digital has changed everything. From photography to video to music to books. Everything has changed due to the instant gratification that the digital era has provided us. I don’t consider this a bad thing. I am a Systems Engineer for Red Bull, worked at Apple, developing apps, etc., so I am deep into the digital era 24/7.

I started taking photos a little over a year ago and just recently have I come to appreciate the differences between a hard-copy print and viewing photos on the computer screen. The print offers you something that the new digital age has downplayed to be considered not as cool or hip, because it’s more static. You can’t click to the next tab to see something else. Another drawback is that it costs money. The internet has conditioned us to believe that all things should be immediate and free. I am not saying this is a bad thing, there are different ways to experience photography.

Along with that, though, comes one of the biggest drawbacks with the print, which is that it costs money. I know, it’s weird paying some random dude for a piece of paper with a photo on it. What does he do with the money? Just buy more camera gear?

Two of my friends went to Haiti right after the earthquake and came back changed. They no longer want to stay here in America. Everything about their purpose in life had been turned upside down. So they have started a non-profit organization called True Love Live. Their goal is simple: to provide children in Haiti with the school supplies that they need so they are motivated to stay in school and not get involved with gangs, prostitution, etc. Education is the key to getting out of poverty, and that is true all over the world.

As of today, I have donated every penny I have ever made with photography to either Red Cross for the Haiti relief or True Love Live. Going forward, 100% of every print sale will go directly to providing backpacks full of school supplies to children in Haiti so they can get the education they deserve.

Buy a print. You will experience photography different. You will help others.
